Responsibilities

Job Role: Data Cabling engineer


Location: Predominantly Barnsley and Wakefield Data Centres.

Working hours: 37.5 hours flexible

Shift Patterns: Evening and Nights with a great shift allowance

Car required 

 


Role Responsibilities
The works will generally be carried out at night time due to client restrictions (from 1800) and comprise.
1. Installation, termination and testing of copper CAT6A systems
2. Installation of fibre optic cabling (fusion splicing experience and advantage)
3. Installation and testing of pre-termiated fibre optic cabling (OM3, OM4 and singlemode)
4. Extensive use of fluke versiv test equipment
5. Provide cover for moves and changes team
6. Carry out cable recovery when required in all areas of the data centres under change controls.
7. Installation and connectivity of network equipment
8. Vans are available from Sheffield area but ability to get to sites in own vehicle is required.

 

Works outside Data Centres
1. General cable installations on campus sites carrying out works as above.
2. Attending to structured cabling faults on sites
This work may be UK wide but would be predominantly within the Northern data centres

Qualifications

Skills / Experience / Qualifications
Must have the following
• Experience of data centre environment
• Experience of structured cabling systems (manufacture accreditations advantageous)
• Network equipment connectivity and installation experience
• Knowledge of different data centre platforms (I-Series, Z-Series, SAN amongst others)
• PC literate – (use of Microsoft office software)
• Health and Safety awareness (ECS, SSSTS or IOSH certification advantageous).
• Understanding of the security required in a data centre.
