This role is vital in ensuring that multiple projects within our Public Services portfolio, particularly those involving complex installations in critical infrastructure and higher-risk environments, are conducted in full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation. There will be a particular focus on the practical application and audit of the Building Safety Act 2022 requirements on site.

The EHS Advisor will play a hands-on role in promoting a strong safety culture, providing guidance, conducting inspections, and verifying compliance across various project sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EHS Management & Compliance

  • Assist the EHS and Building Safety Manager in implementing and maintaining the sector and project specific Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems.
  • Ensure all project and site operations comply with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) 2015, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO), and other relevant EHS legislation.
  • Conduct regular, proactive site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide EHS advice, guidance, and support to project teams, colleagues, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Assist in the development and review of risk assessments, method statements, and site-specific safety plans such as Construction Phase Plans (CPP) or Work Package Plans (WPP).
  • Support site teams in managing temporary works and maintaining organised site compounds.

Building Safety Act (BSA) & Site Audits

  • Conduct routine site audits specifically focused on verifying compliance with the operational aspects of the Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA) and associated regulations for Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) and record findings in North’s SafetyCulture tool.
  • Verify that on-site practices align with the "Golden Thread" of building information, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Technical Compliance Manager to monitor the implementation of safety critical elements related to building structure and fire safety, ensuring adherence to approved designs and standards.
  • Report findings from BSA-focused site audits to the EHS and Building Safety Manager, highlighting areas of good practice and non-conformance.
  • Assist in the collection and verification of on-site evidence for completion certificate requirements.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Support the investigation of EHS incidents, accidents, near misses, occupational health issues, and building safety occurrences, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting EHS and Building Safety reports as required by internal procedures and external regulations.

Training & Awareness

  • Contribute to the delivery of EHS inductions, toolbox talks, and specific training sessions for site personnel.
  • Promote a positive occupational health and safety, and building safety culture across all project sites.

Environmental Management

  • Monitor site environmental performance, including waste management, pollution prevention, and resource efficiency.

Ensure compliance with environmental permits and legislation.
